Julie Payne-Kirchmeier, Ph.D., CASP currently serves as the Vice President for Student Success at Indiana University and is the first to hold a cabinet-level position focused on student success. Julie oversees critical student services departments, including university-level admissions, financial aid, student records, transfer operations, military and veteran’s affairs, as well as oversight of university-wide systems in support of student success. In addition, the OVPSS team regularly engages with multiple stakeholders, student success advisory groups, and leaders across IU campuses to most effectively center and support students at every stage – from prospective student to alumni.
Julie is a senior student-focused professional with over 25 years of progressively responsible and expansive leadership, supervisory, and budgetary experience across multiple institutional types and functional areas. Students have been the focus of Julie’s life-long work, and in service to them, she has been asked to spearhead institution-wide new initiatives based on professional expertise in strategic planning and assessment, cross-functional collaboration, student development, and innovative problem-solving. She has a demonstrated history of creating and supervising high-performing teams that deliver results for the institution while also serving and advocating for students.
